| Massage therapy can help relieve chronic pain, muscular tension, and stress. Numerous studies have shown that massage improves circulation, reduces heart rate, and lowers blood pressure, as well as improving range of motion, joint flexibility, and posture. Manipulating the muscles and soft tissue of the body stimulates endorphin release and promotes the body’s self-healing. Hammond-Beyer Health Center, P.A. offers appointments for half hour, full hour, and 1½ hour massage. All massage therapy is performed in a professional and safe environment. Our licensed, experienced massage therapists offer bodywork including relaxation, deep tissue massage, sports massage, neuromuscular therapy, Somato-Emotional Release, reflexology, CranioSacral therapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, hot rock therapy, and Reiki (please see descriptions below). Some health insurance plans cover massage therapy for specific conditions. Gift certificates are also available. | DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE Deep-tissue massage utilizes slow strokes and direct pressure applied to the muscles using fingers, thumbs or elbows. Deep-tissue massage reaches the connective tissue (fascia) to release tension, reverse the effects of stress, and relieve chronic pain. SPORTS MASSAGE Sports massage is both preventative and therapeutic. It is used for athletes during warm ups, training, and competition to treat and aid in the prevention of injuries as well as to improve flexibility, range of motion, and performance. NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY Neuromuscular therapy is applied to specific muscles to increase blood flow, release knots of muscle tension, and relieve pressure on nerves. SOMATO-EMOTIONAL RELEASE The body often retains the emotional imprint of physical trauma. The therapist works to release these long-held, intense feelings stored in the tissues of the body through imaging, dialogue, and bodywork. REFLEXOLOGY Applying appropriate pressure to specific points on the feet, which correspond to specific organs in the body, stimulates the flow of energy throughout the body and promotes relaxation. CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY CST addresses restrictions in the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a light touch, the CST practitioner evaluates the pulsing rhythm of the patient’s craniosacral system to detect and correct imbalances. Beneficial for infants, children and adults, CranioSacral Therapy improves the functioning of the central nervous system. MYOFASCIAL RELEASE This approach works to release tight connective tissue by applying gentle pressure to the restricted areas. MFR can help with chronic pain, headaches, and stress-related illnesses. TRIGGER POINT Trigger points are areas of soft tissue in the body characterized by pain, tightness, and tenderness. The therapist seeks to identify trigger points, then use positioning, stretching, and manipulation to release them. Trigger Point therapy can help break the cycle of muscle spasms. HOT ROCK THERAPY Stones are heated and then placed on strategic areas of the body to soften tissues, increase circulation and provide comfort and relaxation. REIKI Reiki refers to universal or spiritually-guided life-force energy in conjunction with bodywork. A Reiki practitioner seeks to correct energy imbalances in the body to restore good health. |
